project 07
community castle //
After years of closure, Canterbury Castle was conceptually developed carefully with the personal interests of restoring the space whilst re-establishing its role as a vibrant community hub. The design initiative explores the opportunity to transform the space to house a theatre space in addition to a viewing platform. This supports the idea that the community has a space to gather in a place of heritage whilst embracing modern uses to communicate the story of the space to future generations.
As an initial Master’s project, Community Castle provided a personal challenge to effectively communicate the development of a project within a limited time frame. With an assigned site and tight deadline, this project aided personal confidence to move forward with concepts as opposed to focusing on details during initial stages of the design process. Additionally exploring visual methods of design communication.
